Forests for Carbon

Forest restoration is our best strategy for capturing carbon from the air and slowing global heating. But a forest is more than just trees. It is the trees, the soil and the biodiversity that they support. Together they capture carbon for generations.

Many governments are committed to significant forest restoration programmes, but most research to date has been driven by the commercial forestry industry, focusing on timber production, not on carbon capture. For these new tree planting programmes to be effective, we need to understand what is required to maximize carbon capture in new forests. There is an urgent need to understand how to maximize carbon capture in both the tree and the soil, and the role of biodiversity in carbon capture.

What does a "trust in trees" mean?

"Trees in trust" means that we plant trees in your name on our land.
Trees in trust means that The Carbon Community plants trees in your name on land owned by the charity. You don't own the woodland, rather it is held in your name forever by the charity which secures and preserves the woodland for the for the environment, benefit of wildlife and for future generations.
