Bring purpose to your waste by utilizing compost bins. Turn your scraps, leftovers, and even lint into luscious, nutrient dense compost for your home garden or share the compost with your community using a local vendor!
Meat production means the devastation of land, wildlife, and production of about a quarter of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. Eating less meat means less resources going into farming these animals, including high levels of water consumption as well (Source).
Reducing the amount of waste provided is a key goal in bettering our Earth. Instead of using paper towels which are thrown away immediately after use, you can opt for a cloth and wash when needed.
Starting a home garden is a rewarding way to give back to the Earth. By doing this, you allow a small step in reducing the emissions of shipping these foods between farms, warehouses, and supermarkets, but also between yourself and your local grocer. Not to mention, it is a fun hobby that can be utilized throughout the year!
It's a first instinct to chop off the stems or leaves, but they are often edible and delicious! Like many things in life, sometimes they just need a little extra care. Consider different recipes for things like carrot greens and making a delicious pesto with some herb stems, like basil!
Some people are put off by the slightly more expensive bulb, but they can actually reduce your energy expenses throughout the year! These bulbs last significantly longer than their counterparts and as a result offer less waste and production resources. They also have the benefit of not containing hazardous material like mercury.
Everyone knows the issue: the build up of plastic waste on the Earth is out of control. An often overlooked source of this waste comes from the bathroom. Many independent crafters make soaps, shampoos, and conditioners in bar form which allow you to bypass most, if not all, of the plastic waste as a result.

Supporting our Earth & Your Community.

We need to keep each other safe, please follow government guidelines and observe social distancing. Please do not travel. During the COVID crisis, there are still things you can do to support our Earth and your community.
Find creative ways to use leftovers or a recipe to use up the tins at the back of the cupboard. Making a plan for the week ahead can help ensure you buy only the food that you need. This can help reduce waste and the number of shopping trips.
Supporting a small business helps support jobs and keeps money in local communities. Many small business are finding safe ways to provide take-out, delivery or collection of orders.
Shopping local supports your local economy and reduces the greenhouse gas emissions associated with travel. Local shops often carry products that are produced closure to home, supporting local makers and farmers.

Taking a leap for the sake of a better world.

Reduce or ideally stop eating meat. Going vegetarian can save you 0.8 tonnes of CO2 (0.9 for vegan diets).
This one's easy - you can now switch to an electricity supplier that is 100% low carbon. It might cost slightly more, but your home (or business) electricity will be coming solely from low carbon sources like wind and solar.
Switch your petrol or diesel car for electric and save 1.25 tonnes of CO2 each year on average.
Go vegetarian or vegan.

Work alongside us, for our planet.

Big or small, any contribution of your help is valuable. If you're interested in helping please tell us a little about yourself and we'll contact you when we have volunteering opportunities you might be interested in! Volunteering opportunities range from tree planting, to footpath creation and maintenance, through to fundraising, writing, translating and supporting us on social media.

We also run citizen science volunteering activities where you can get involved in tagging and cataloguing trees, and collecting data for environmental scientists. We also ask you to share your location, because some activities are done more easily by those living locally, and ask about your background because if you have a scientific background you may be able to help supervise citizen science.
